Disney is set to undertake a significant project that involves draining part of the moat surrounding Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom. This initiative is aimed at facilitating the painting project for the castle, allowing construction vehicles to access the area more easily.
To manage this process effectively, a dam has been constructed in the water near Tomorrowland. Currently, tarps are rolled up on top of this dam and will be unfurled when the draining begins, indicating that preparations are well underway. Additional dams have also been placed on the Liberty Square side, which is situated closer to the castle, as well as on the Tomorrowland side. The strategic placement of these dams means that Disney can avoid draining the entire moat that encircles the central “Hub” in front of Cinderella Castle, thus preserving some of the water during the construction.
The repainting of Cinderella Castle commenced recently, with noticeable additions of gray paint already visible. This project aims to restore the iconic colors of Cinderella Castle after a period of five years since its last major refurbishment. As a result of the painting work, the popular nighttime show, Happily Ever After, has been adjusted. Additionally, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire is now performing only in the afternoons and has temporarily removed any pyrotechnic elements from its shows. Moreover, Let the Magic Begin will now feature only music, omitting character appearances due to the ongoing painting project.
